WHO ARE YOU & WHAT IS "LA TRAIN•HER"?
"LA Train•her" is a scripted dramedy web series that follows trainer Charlie Wyatt as she navigates a parodied version of the Los Angeles fitness scene in pursuit of a job. The show is created by me, Meagan Fulps and my team of incredibly talented weirdos.
With this show we want to make you laugh and make you feel, all while making fun of the extremes and absurdities that exist in the Los Angeles fitness scene. Even though we parody this world, we still get real. Our characters have identity insecurities and struggle to find themselves in a world full of facades. Don’t get me wrong; Los Angeles is extraordinary for many reasons, including its justified credit as the fitness mecca of the world. But, that doesn’t mean it’s not a constant battle here to stay true to yourself while fighting to be your best, and THE best.
WHAT INSPIRED THE SHOW?
Many bits and pieces of the show are inspired by moments and real people that I’ve experienced while being a fitness trainer the last few years here in Los Angeles. I’ve also been inspired by so many successful female TV show creators who started their journeys by making a web series loosely based on their unique life experiences.
My life prior to writing and training was nothing but athletics, because obviously basketball is life. I was molded into the person I am today by my experience as a professional athlete. It gave me perspective, stories and fueled many of my creative endeavors. I’ve always dreamed of the day I would get to combine my careers and passions… and now, here we are!
It’s also still frustratingly rare to see genuinely athletic and physically strong women with real muscle definition on screen. Wake up faster people, strength is attractive, attainable, and admirable—we need more of it! Showing these types of women in my show has been, and will continue to be, a significant component. Let's be real, badass women dominate the fitness scene, and it’s time we all knew about it.
WHO'S BEHIND THE PROJECT?
We make up a team of 20+ wonderful and talented people who’ve donated so much of their time and sweat into putting this quirky little project on screen. I intentionally pulled together people directly from the fitness world to bring an element of authenticity, but also to show that there are SO MANY CREATIVES who work in fitness busting their butts every single day and working multiple jobs to pursue their dreams. It’s crazy how many actors, writers, producers, etc. consume the fitness industry, and I couldn’t be more grateful to be surrounded by them all. Bringing them onto this project has been amazing, not just because they’re talented, but also because they truly believe in what we’re creating and want to showcase this unique world we live in.
